Environmental Stewardship on farm

Meat & Livestock Australia is in the process of developing an Environmental Stewardship Management System for farmers. The program will be available for farmers to effectively manage and report on their environmental performance.

The system is being developed in consultation with farmers and industry bodies. Trials of the system are underway, with the expectation that the program will be rolled out in 2012.

It is expected that the Environmental Stewardship Management System will work across five key areas:

• Land use and management
• Biodiversity
• Soil and water
• Feral animals and weeds
• Greenhouse gas and energy management
