Welcome to Red Meat Green Facts
Red Meat Green Facts has been created by the cattle and sheep industry in an ongoing effort to discuss the issues of sustainable farming practices.
Here you'll find the facts about the impact of farming on our environment and the proactive initiatives undertaken by farmers and processors across Australia.
About Australian livestock farmers
As caretakers of nearly 50% of Australia's landmass, the meat and livestock industry recognises that we have a responsibility to sustainably manage the environment. We recognise that, like all industries, we have an environmental impact and we work hard to develop ways to minimise this effect.
As Australian beef and sheep farmers, we make our living on the land and have done so for generations. It is in our best interest to ensure our practices are environmentally sustainable not just for our livelihood, but also for our families, the community and for generations to come.
We remain committed to leading the way in developing world class practices to further reduce our environmental impact by:
|
|
-
Each year the industry injects over $16 billion into the nation's economy and employs over 172,000 people
-
Each year the cattle and sheep industry in collaboration with the Australian Government, invests over $13 million in research and development to further reduce our environmental impact
-
Australian meat is produced with
one of the lowest carbon emission profiles of any major meat producing country in the world
